Lyles & King is pleased to present Cartoons, a solo exhibition of Liana Finck’s ink drawings opening Tuesday, December 2, 6-8 pm. This marks the artist’s first exhibition with the gallery.

New Yorker cartoonist Liana Finck is one of the most hilarious, brilliant, and celebrated cartoonists working today. Routinely featured in The New York Times and Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, amongst others, Finck has published eight books, including the critically acclaimed Passing for Human, Let There Be Light: The Real Story of Her Creation, and How to Baby: A No-Advice-Given Guide to Motherhood. Her drawings articulate our collective anxieties and send them up with incisive wit and a touch of poignance.

Finck’s“It’s good I have the patriarchy to blame for everything, or I might be mad at you!” would be too close to home if it weren’t also funny. “You need to stop looking at other democracies on Instagram” is the caption of another one of her drawings. Finck’s work is simultaneously personal and universal, speaking to larger conversations of the zeitgeist and to the absurd micro-tribulations of daily life.

Liana Finck (b. 1986) is a cartoonist, illustrator, and regular contributor to the New Yorker, where she also authors the popular advice-from-a-dog column, “Dear Pepper.” Finck has received numerous awards, including Fulbright, Guggenheim, Berlin Prize, and New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowships. She earned her BFA from The Cooper Union and is launching a cartooning class at Barnard College this spring. Her work has notably amassed a cult following on social media, connecting to audiences worldwide. The artist lives and works in Brooklyn, NY with her husband, children, dog and vast collection of pens and pencils.
